What it means

A generic failure code: a program or Windows component hit an error it did not describe further.

Common causes

• Missing permissions on a file or folder
• A damaged app install
• Antivirus blocking a file

How to fix it

1. Run the program as administrator once (right-click > Run as administrator) to rule out permissions.
2. Check Windows Security > Protection history for a blocked file and allow it only if you trust it.
3. Uninstall the program, restart and install the newest version from the official site.
4. Open Terminal (Admin) and run sfc /scannow, then DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth. Restart afterwards.
