The data is invalid

What it means

An update file is damaged, so Windows cannot read it.

Common causes

• A damaged download
• Damaged component store

How to fix it

1. Reset the update cache: in Terminal (Admin) run net stop wuauserv, net stop bits, rename C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution to SoftwareDistribution.old, then net start wuauserv and net start bits.
2. Run DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth.
3. Run the Windows Update troubleshooter: Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters > Windows Update.
