A device attached to the system is not functioning

What it means

A driver failed during an upgrade. Very often it is an audio driver.

Common causes

• Old audio or USB drivers

How to fix it

1. Update the audio driver from your board or laptop maker.
2. Unplug USB audio devices, docks and hubs during the upgrade.
3. Reset the update cache: in Terminal (Admin) run net stop wuauserv, net stop bits, rename C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution to SoftwareDistribution.old, then net start wuauserv and net start bits.
