What it means

Another program had a file open that the update wanted to replace.

Common causes

• Antivirus or backup tools scanning at the same time

How to fix it

1. Restart, then install the update before opening other programs.
2. Pause third-party antivirus and backup tools.
3. Reset the update cache: in Terminal (Admin) run net stop wuauserv, net stop bits, rename C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution to SoftwareDistribution.old, then net start wuauserv and net start bits.
