The configuration registry database is corrupt
What it means
Windows setup tried to read a registry hive it needs and found damage, so the upgrade or update stopped.
Common causes
- A damaged registry hive
- A drive that returned bad data
- A failed earlier update
How to fix it
- Make a restore point first: search for
Create a restore point, select the system drive and press Create. - Run
chkdsk C: /fat the next restart, then retry. - Open Terminal (Admin) and run
sfc /scannow, thenDISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth. Restart afterwards. - If it keeps failing, do an in-place upgrade with the current ISO; it rebuilds the hives Windows needs.
