What it means

A service (often Windows Update or Defender) was busy or stuck when asked to do something.

Common causes

• Another antivirus interfering
• A stuck service

How to fix it

1. Restart the PC.
2. Uninstall other antivirus software so Defender can run.
3. Reset the update cache: in Terminal (Admin) run net stop wuauserv, net stop bits, rename C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution to SoftwareDistribution.old, then net start wuauserv and net start bits.
