Source files could not be downloaded

What it means

Windows needs files from its own component store or from Windows Update and could not get them, so the feature or update stopped.

Common causes

• The component store is damaged
• No connection to Windows Update or a proxy blocks it
• A feature needs installation media as its source

How to fix it

1. Check the date, time and connection, then retry the update once.
2. Run DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth in Terminal (Admin) and restart.
3. Mount a Windows ISO and point DISM at it: DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:WIM:D:\sources\install.wim:1, with D: as the mounted ISO.
4. Run the Windows Update troubleshooter: Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters > Windows Update.
