What it means

The package is offered for a different build, architecture or language, so the installer refuses to apply it.

Common causes

• A package meant for another Windows version or language
• Windows Update offering a partial or mislabelled update
• A manually downloaded .msu from a third-party site

How to fix it

1. Check winver and the system language, then download the update only from the Microsoft Update Catalog.
2. Run the Windows Update troubleshooter: Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters > Windows Update.
3. Let Windows Update find the update again instead of installing a .msu you found elsewhere.
