The update request timed out
What it means
The update client waited for the server and gave up; the request is valid, the answer just never came in time.
Common causes
- A proxy or VPN that stalls large requests
- A WSUS server that is overloaded or offline
- A network with packet loss
How to fix it
- Run the Windows Update troubleshooter: Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters > Windows Update.
- Try again off-peak, or on another network, to separate a local problem from a server one.
- If the PC is managed, ask IT whether the WSUS server is reachable from your subnet.
