An invalid parameter was passed to the boot loader
What it means
The firmware or the boot manager handed Windows a value it cannot accept, so the boot stops before drivers load.
Common causes
- A damaged BCD store
- Firmware settings changed by an update
- A failing disk returning garbage
How to fix it
- Start the PC from the Windows install stick or recovery drive, then choose Repair your computer > Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Command Prompt.
- Open Startup Repair once; it rewrites the boot files it can identify as broken.
- If that does not help, run
bootrec /fixmbr,bootrec /fixbootandbootrec /rebuildbcd.
