Illegal instruction
What it means
The program used a CPU instruction this processor does not support, or the file is damaged and only looks like code.
Common causes
- A build made for a newer CPU
- A corrupted executable or DLL
- An unstable overclock
How to fix it
- Verify the game files or reinstall the app from the official source.
- Check the app's system requirements: some new games need AVX2 or a newer instruction set.
- Undo any overclock or undervolt, including XMP/EXPO memory profiles, and test at stock settings for a day.
- Open Terminal (Admin) and run
sfc /scannow, thenDISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth. Restart afterwards.
