The boot configuration data file does not contain a valid OS entry
What it means
The BCD store is there but has no usable entry for Windows, so the boot manager has nothing it is allowed to start.
Common causes
- A deleted or overwritten BCD entry
- A second install or cloning tool rewriting the boot store
- The system partition changed drive letter or size
How to fix it
- Start the PC from the Windows install stick or recovery drive, then choose Repair your computer > Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Command Prompt.
- In that recovery Command Prompt run
bootrec /fixmbr,bootrec /fixbootandbootrec /rebuildbcdin that order, answering yes when it finds a Windows installation. - If rebuildcnd finds no installations, run
bcdedit /enum alland check whether the Windows entry still exists.
