DNS name does not exist (KMS)
What it means
Windows tried to reach a KMS activation server and the name does not resolve. This is common on a PC that left a company network.
Common causes
- A work PC no longer on the company network
- The KMS host name is wrong or missing
- DNS or VPN does not reach the server
How to fix it
- Run
slmgr /dlvto see which activation type and KMS host Windows expects. - On a work PC, connect to the company VPN or network and retry activation.
- If you bought a retail licence, change the product key to that key and activate online.
- Do not install a KMS emulator; it is piracy and often malware.
