ATTEMPTED_SWITCH_FROM_DPC
What it means
A driver tried to hand the CPU to another thread while Windows was still inside a deferred procedure call, which the kernel does not allow.
Common causes
- A driver blocking or sleeping inside a DPC
- Network or Wi-Fi drivers with power-saving bugs
- Filter drivers from antivirus or VPN software
How to fix it
- Open the crash dump in WhoCrashed or BlueScreenView: it usually names the driver file that caused it (for example
nvlddmkm.sysis the NVIDIA driver). - Update the graphics, chipset and network drivers from the maker's site (NVIDIA, AMD, Intel or your board vendor), not from a driver-updater tool.
- Turn off the network adapter's power saving: Device Manager > adapter > Power Management, untick the box, then test.
