3 short beeps
AMI BIOS beep: memory error
What it means
The memory check failed. On most AMI boards three short beeps point at RAM rather than the graphics card.
Common causes
- A stick not seated
- Incompatible or unstable memory profile
- A faulty stick or slot
How to fix it
- Reseat the RAM and test one stick at a time in the recommended slot.
- Clear CMOS to disable XMP/EXPO and test at default speed.
- Clean the slot with compressed air and check for bent pins on the board.
- Run MemTest86 once the PC boots.
