The BOOTMGR image is corrupt
BOOTMGR image is corrupt
What it means
The boot manager file on disk is damaged, so the firmware loads something that cannot hand over to Windows.
Common causes
- Bad sectors where BOOTMGR is stored
- A failed write during an update
- A clone or image restore that only copied part of the system partition
How to fix it
- Start the PC from the Windows install stick or recovery drive, then choose Repair your computer > Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Command Prompt.
- Use
bootrec /fixbootfrom the recovery Command Prompt to write a fresh copy. - If it returns access denied, note that on UEFI systems the EFI partition has to be mounted first with
diskpartandassign letter=S. - Check the drive's health in CrystalDiskInfo. A Caution or Bad status means back up now and replace the drive.
