Code 14

This device cannot work until you restart

What it means

The driver was installed or changed, but Windows needs a clean start before it can use it.

Common causes

• A driver just installed
• A pending Windows update
• A device reset that needs a reboot

How to fix it

1. Restart the PC properly (Start > Power > Restart, not shutdown).
2. Finish any pending Windows updates.
3. If it returns after every restart, reinstall the driver and check its version.
4. On a laptop, also check the maker's power or hotkey software.
