CONFIG_INITIALIZATION_FAILED

What it means

Windows could not set up the registry configuration it reads at boot, so it stopped before the desktop could load.

Common causes

• A damaged SYSTEM hive
• A failing disk that returns read errors during boot
• Partition or boot-configuration changes made by a cloning tool

How to fix it

1. Start the recovery Command Prompt and run chkdsk C: /f /r.
2. Import a known-good SYSTEM hive from C:\Windows\System32\config\RegBack if it is not empty.
3. If nothing helps, use Startup Repair from the Windows install stick and keep your files.
