DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION
What it means
A driver took far too long to answer, so Windows stopped waiting.
Common causes
- Old SSD firmware or the SATA AHCI driver
- Outdated chipset drivers
- Faulty peripherals
How to fix it
- Update your SSD firmware with the maker's tool (Samsung Magician, Crucial Storage Executive and so on).
- Update the graphics, chipset and network drivers from the maker's site (NVIDIA, AMD, Intel or your board vendor), not from a driver-updater tool.
- Unplug USB devices you do not need and test again.
- Open the crash dump in WhoCrashed or BlueScreenView: it usually names the driver file that caused it (for example
nvlddmkm.sysis the NVIDIA driver).
