File History has no drive

File History cannot find a backup drive

What it means

File History needs a separate drive and none is selected or connected, so it has nowhere to save versions.

Common causes

How to fix it

  1. Connect an external drive that is at least twice the size of your important data.
  2. Open File History in Control Panel and select the drive.
  3. Turn File History on and press Run now.
  4. Keep a second copy somewhere else, ideally with versioning.
