HARDWARE_INTERRUPT_STORM
What it means
One device kept raising interrupts so fast that Windows could not do anything else; the message is about the interrupt controller, the cause is the device.
Common causes
- A failing network card, USB controller or add-in card
- A driver that never acknowledges its interrupts
- A badly seated PCIe card or a BIOS setting for interrupt remapping
How to fix it
- Unplug USB and add-in devices one by one, restarting between steps, to find the one that triggers it.
- Update the chipset and network drivers, and disable unused devices in Device Manager.
- In the BIOS turn off interrupt remapping or IOMMU virtualisation for a test, then re-enable it if nothing changes.
