MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION
What it means
The CPU reported a hardware error. On newer systems the same thing shows as WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR.
Common causes
- Overclock or undervolt
- Overheating
- Unstable power
How to fix it
- Undo any overclock or undervolt, including XMP/EXPO memory profiles, and test at stock settings for a day.
- Check CPU temperatures under load with HWiNFO.
- Make sure all power cables to the board (24-pin and CPU 8-pin) are firmly seated.
- Test the RAM: run Windows Memory Diagnostic (search
mdsched) or MemTest86 from a USB stick. Any error means a stick or its speed setting is the problem.
