Unable to install printer

What it means

Windows found the printer but could not finish installing its driver or port, so the operation was cancelled.

Common causes

• A damaged or incompatible driver
• The spooler is stuck
• The installer is not running with enough rights

How to fix it

1. Restart the print spooler: in Terminal (Admin) run net stop spooler, delete the files in C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS, then net start spooler.
2. Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners: remove the printer, restart the PC and add it again, ideally by its IP address.
3. Download the full driver package from the printer maker and install it as administrator before adding the printer.
4. Run Windows Update once and check Optional updates for the printer.
