Windows cannot connect to the printer
What it means
The shared printer was found but the connection failed, often because of credentials, a driver mismatch or a policy.
Common causes
- The share needs different credentials
- Point-and-Print is restricted by policy
- The driver is not available on this PC
How to fix it
- Open the share path (
\\PC-NAME\Printer) in Explorer and sign in with an account that can print. - Install the printer driver locally before connecting to the share.
- Add the printer by IP address instead of the share; it avoids the policy problem.
- On a work PC, ask IT whether Point-and-Print is blocked on purpose.
