REGISTRY_ERROR

What it means

Windows could not read or write a registry hive, usually because the disk returned an error at that moment.

Common causes

• File system or disk errors
• A damaged registry hive
• Failing RAM

How to fix it

1. Think about what changed just before it started (new driver, app, update or hardware) and undo that first. System Restore can roll back drivers without touching your files.
2. Run chkdsk C: /f in Terminal (Admin) and let it run at the next restart.
3. Open Terminal (Admin) and run sfc /scannow, then DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth. Restart afterwards.
4. Check the drive's health in CrystalDiskInfo. A Caution or Bad status means back up now and replace the drive.
