RESOURCE_NOT_OWNED
What it means
A driver released a system resource it never owned, which corrupts the kernel's bookkeeping.
Common causes
- A buggy third-party driver
- Leftover drivers from removed hardware
- Damaged system files
How to fix it
- Open the crash dump in WhoCrashed or BlueScreenView: it usually names the driver file that caused it (for example
nvlddmkm.sysis the NVIDIA driver). - Uninstall drivers or tools for hardware you no longer use.
- Update the graphics, chipset and network drivers from the maker's site (NVIDIA, AMD, Intel or your board vendor), not from a driver-updater tool.
- Open Terminal (Admin) and run
sfc /scannow, thenDISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth. Restart afterwards.
