SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
What it means
A system thread crashed and nothing handled the error. The named file is almost always a driver.
Common causes
- Graphics or chipset drivers
- Drivers left over from old hardware
How to fix it
- Note the
.sysfile on the blue screen. - Open the crash dump in WhoCrashed or BlueScreenView: it usually names the driver file that caused it (for example
nvlddmkm.sysis the NVIDIA driver). - If you cannot boot, open Safe Mode (hold Shift while clicking Restart > Troubleshoot > Startup Settings) and roll back the driver.
- Update the graphics, chipset and network drivers from the maker's site (NVIDIA, AMD, Intel or your board vendor), not from a driver-updater tool.
