WDF_VIOLATION
What it means
A driver built on Microsoft's driver framework broke one of its rules. USB, keyboard and Bluetooth drivers are the usual suspects.
Common causes
- A faulty USB, keyboard or Bluetooth driver
- A broken update of such a driver
How to fix it
- Unplug USB devices you added recently and test without them.
- Think about what changed just before it started (new driver, app, update or hardware) and undo that first. System Restore can roll back drivers without touching your files.
- Open the crash dump in WhoCrashed or BlueScreenView: it usually names the driver file that caused it (for example
nvlddmkm.sysis the NVIDIA driver). - Update the graphics, chipset and network drivers from the maker's site (NVIDIA, AMD, Intel or your board vendor), not from a driver-updater tool.
