ERROR_SERVICE_LOGON_FAILED

What it means

The service tried to log on with an account whose password or rights are no longer valid.

Common causes

• The account password changed
• The account lacks "Log on as a service"
• A managed service account is misconfigured

How to fix it

1. In services.msc open the service's Log On tab and update the password.
2. If it uses Local System, switch back unless the vendor requires an account.
3. Add the account to "Log on as a service" in secpol.msc when needed.
4. On a domain PC, ask IT whether the service account was rotated.
