ERROR_ACCESS_DENIED

What it means

Windows understood the request but the account or a security policy does not allow it.

Common causes

• The program is not running as administrator
• The file belongs to another account or is read-only
• Antivirus Controlled Folder Access blocks it

How to fix it

1. Run the program as administrator once (right-click > Run as administrator) to rule out permissions.
2. Right-click the file or folder > Properties > Security and check your permissions.
3. Check Windows Security > Protection history for a block.
4. Take ownership only if you understand the consequences: Properties > Security > Advanced > Owner.
