Windows Hello PIN
The PIN is not accepted
What it means
Windows Hello cannot verify the PIN, often after a TPM reset, an account change or a damaged Hello container.
Common causes
- TPM cleared or firmware updated
- The account password changed elsewhere
- The NGC folder that stores Hello data is damaged
How to fix it
- Sign in with your password, then reset the PIN under Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options.
- If the PIN option is missing, sign out and back in, then check Windows Update.
- As a last resort, an administrator can delete
C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Local\Microsoft\NGCand set up Hello again. - Back up BitLocker recovery keys before clearing or resetting the TPM.
