Identify the two endpoints
Open **Settings > System > Sound** and look at the output list. If you see both **Headphones (Stereo)** and **Headset** entries for the same device, Windows is using HFP (mono) whenever an app opens the microphone.
Keep Bluetooth headphones in stereo on Windows 11 25H2 by disabling the Hands-Free profile and forcing the A2DP endpoint.
Disable the **Hands-Free** service on the headset in **Devices and Printers** so Windows cannot fall back to the mono **HFP** profile.
Open **Settings > System > Sound** and look at the output list. If you see both **Headphones (Stereo)** and **Headset** entries for the same device, Windows is using HFP (mono) whenever an app opens the microphone.
Press Win+R and run the control command below. Modern **Settings** does not expose per-profile toggles yet.
control printers
Right-click your headset, choose **Properties > Services**, and uncheck **Hands-free Telephony**. Click **OK** and wait for Windows to reconfigure the device.
Back in **Settings > System > Sound**, select the remaining **Headphones (Stereo)** entry and set it as the default output. The mono **Headset** entry should be gone.
Open **Settings > Privacy & security > Microphone** and turn off access for apps that do not need it (Teams, Discord, browsers). Any app that opens the mic forces Windows to re-create the HFP endpoint.
Play a stereo test track and confirm clean L/R separation. YouTube's channel test (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M6NFkbbdcZQ) is a quick check.
Unpair the headset in **Settings > Bluetooth & devices**, re-pair it, then reopen **Properties > Services**. Windows populates the list only after a full handshake.
A background app still requests the mic. Open **Settings > Privacy & security > Microphone > Recent activity** to find and disable it.
Reopen **Properties > Services** and re-tick **Audio Sink**; it may have been unchecked together.
Classic Bluetooth cannot run A2DP (stereo) and HFP (mic) at the same time, so Windows drops to the mono HFP codec whenever an app opens the microphone.
No. LE Audio with LC3 supports stereo + mic together, but it needs headset, radio and Windows LE Audio support.
Only partially. You can set the output per app in **Sound > Advanced**, but any app opening the mic still forces HFP globally.
Open **control printers**, right-click the headset, go to **Properties > Services** and re-tick **Hands-free Telephony**. The microphone and mono fallback behavior return.
