Fix scaling before anything else
Mixed scaling makes icons and text look inconsistent no matter which pack you install. Set one scale per monitor and sign out so all apps redraw.
Settings > System > Display > Scale
Three settings decide whether a desktop looks designed or assembled: one font scale, one icon set, one cursor size. All three are reversible.
Set **one scaling value per display**, install a single icon pack through the **Registry** or a theme tool, and change the **cursor size** with the accessibility slider instead of a cursor installer.

Settings > System > Display > Scale
Open **Settings > Accessibility > Mouse pointer and touch** and use the size slider or a custom pointer from the same page. Cursor installers replace system files; this does not.

Windows has no icon setting, so a pack replaces shell32 and imageres resources. Use a tool that writes to a backup, or change shortcuts individually for a smaller effect.
Properties > Shortcut > Change Icon
Windows 11 uses Segoe UI Variable. If you want another font, change it in one place with a tool that writes the registry value - installing five fonts and setting them per app is what makes a desktop look accidental.

Choose centred or left and stick with it. Combining a centred taskbar with left-aligned Start pins is the most common mismatch on a customised desktop.

Save a system restore point and export the theme. A customised desktop that cannot be reproduced after a reinstall is a weekend you will spend twice.
Settings > Personalisation > Themes > Save theme
The icon cache is stale. Delete iconcache.db and restart Explorer, then reapply.
The font has no variable version, or scaling no longer matches. Go back to Segoe UI Variable.
Games draw their own cursor. Only the desktop cursor changes with the slider.
The patched DLL was replaced. Reinstall the pack or restore the backup files.
Ones that patch system DLLs carry some risk. Ones applied per shortcut are harmless.
You can install a similar open font, but licensing forbids distributing Apple's own files.
Restore the system restore point, or set the icons and fonts back in the tool you used. The cursor returns with the default scheme in the same accessibility page.
