TL;DR

Before you start

Requirements

  • Windows 11 25H2 x64
  • Compatible .cur or .ani cursor files
  • A cursor pack from a trusted source
Step by step

Instructions

01

Prepare the cursor files

Extract the cursor archive into a permanent folder. Check that it contains supported Windows cursor files.

02

Open mouse properties

Open **Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Mouse**. Select **Additional mouse settings** to open the classic mouse properties window.

03

Select the pointer tab

Open **Pointers**. Review the available roles, including Normal Select, Text Select, and Busy.

04

Import custom pointers

Select a pointer role and click **Browse**. Choose its corresponding cursor file and repeat for the roles you want to replace.

05

Save the scheme

Click **Save As**, enter a recognizable name, and select **Apply**. Your pointer scheme is now available for reuse.

06

Verify pointer behavior

Move the pointer over text, clickable buttons, and window borders. Confirm that the correct cursor appears in each situation.

tipKeep the original cursor folder because saved schemes reference its files.
Troubleshooting

Common issues

Some pointers return to default.

Confirm every required role has an assigned file and that the original cursor files have not moved.

The cursor looks blurry.

Use a cursor pack designed for your display resolution and scaling.
