Identify the headphone output
Open **Settings**, select **System**, and choose **Sound**. Play an audio sample and confirm the exact output device used by the headphones.
Install Equalizer APO, select your headphone output, configure a basic EQ, and test system-wide audio processing.
Install **Equalizer APO**, attach it to the correct headphone playback device, and configure a small equalization adjustment. Test the output and save a reversible preset.
Open **Settings**, select **System**, and choose **Sound**. Play an audio sample and confirm the exact output device used by the headphones.
Download the official Windows x64 installer and run it with administrator permission. Complete the setup wizard and open **Device Selector** when prompted.
EqualizerAPO-x64-1.4.2.exe
In **Device Selector**, locate the exact headphone output identified earlier. Enable Equalizer APO for that device without selecting unrelated microphone or speaker endpoints.
Complete the installation and restart Windows when requested. After signing in, confirm that the same headphone output remains selected in **Sound**.
Open **Configuration Editor** and add a modest **Preamp** reduction followed by a small **Peaking Filter** adjustment. Leave unnecessary example filters disabled so the result is easy to evaluate.
Preamp: -5 dB
Filter: ON PK Fc 100 Hz Gain 3 dB Q 1.0
Play the same familiar audio sample and toggle the filters in **Configuration Editor**. Confirm that the sound changes when processing is enabled and returns when the filters are bypassed.
Save the working EQ configuration and record the selected audio endpoint. Reopen **Device Selector** after changing headphones or installing a new sound driver.
Reopen **Device Selector** and verify that the active headphone endpoint is selected. Use its troubleshooting or testing options and restart Windows after changing the installation mode.
Reduce positive EQ boosts or lower the **Preamp** level. Compare with the configuration disabled to identify clipping or conflicting audio enhancements.
Open **Device Selector**, check the playback device again, and reapply APO installation if required. Driver replacement can change the audio processing configuration.
It can process audio from multiple applications on supported Windows playback endpoints. Some exclusive-mode or hardware-specific paths may bypass it.
No. The APO processes compatible audio after the configuration is saved and the application editor is closed.
Yes. You can create different configurations and apply them to selected devices or switch between them.
Open **Configuration Editor** and disable or remove the filters to restore a neutral response. Then open **Device Selector**, remove Equalizer APO from the headphone endpoint, and restart Windows if requested. To uninstall completely, remove **Equalizer APO** through **Installed apps** and restart again.
