Run the first-start wizard
Pick the language, point at the folder with your BIOS dump, then add the folder with your disc images. PCSX2 scans it and builds the game list.
Add a PS2 BIOS dump from your own console, pick Vulkan, upscale to 3x and let the automatic per-game fixes handle the titles that need them.
Use **Vulkan**, **3x native** resolution for 1080p output and keep the automatic game fixes on. **Optimal Frame Pacing** matters more than another step of upscaling.

Open **Settings > Graphics** and choose Vulkan with your discrete GPU. Enable VSync and **Optimal Frame Pacing**; both reduce frame time spikes more than any upscaling change.
Renderer: Vulkan
VSync: On
Optimal Frame Pacing: On
Set **Internal Resolution** to 3x Native, **Texture Filtering** to Bilinear (PS2) and **Anisotropic Filtering** to 8x. Leave the hardware fixes at their defaults - the emulator ships per-game patches.
Internal Resolution: 3x Native (1920x1080)
Texture Filtering: Bilinear (PS2)
Anisotropic Filtering: 8x
If a game's 2D HUD looks soft, open the per-game profile and set Texture Filtering to Nearest there. Never change it globally for one title.
Open **Settings > Controllers**, choose SDL for your pad and map every button, including L3/R3 and both analog sticks. Test analog pressure in a racing game.
The status bar shows FPS and EE% load. If FPS sits below 60, lower the resolution first - it is the cheapest fix. MTVU helps on some CPUs but breaks a handful of games.
Switch to D3D12 or OpenGL once to confirm a GPU driver issue, then update the driver before trying Vulkan again.
Pick the right SDL device in the controller settings and map the sticks explicitly; a half-mapped pad shows up as connected but dead.
Set the audio backend to Cubeb or WASAPI and raise the buffer size; FMVs are the most timing-sensitive part.
Keep Blending at Basic. If it persists, disable the hardware fix for that game in its per-game profile.
Only with GPU headroom. Frame pacing beats resolution every time.
Yes, through the per-game patches. Old manual widescreen hacks break cutscenes.
Reset the per-game profile and set the internal resolution back to native. Uninstalling PCSX2 leaves your BIOS, memory cards and disc images in place.
