Find the two entries
Open **Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Devices**. The headset appears twice: once as headphones (stereo) and once as headset (Hands-Free AG Audio).
Windows keeps two devices for one headset. Disabling the Hands-Free profile stops music turning into a phone call, at the cost of the headset mic.
Disable the **Hands-Free AG Audio** playback device and the **Handsfree Telephony** service, then set the **Stereo** device as default. The headset stays in high-quality audio mode instead of dropping to call quality.
Open **Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Devices**. The headset appears twice: once as headphones (stereo) and once as headset (Hands-Free AG Audio).
Open **System > Sound** and choose the stereo entry as the output device. If you use the headset mic, do the same for the input.
In the sound settings open **More sound settings**, switch to the **Playback** tab, right-click **Headset Earphone (Hands-Free AG Audio)** and disable it.
Open **Control Panel > Devices and Printers**, right-click the headset, open **Properties > Services** and untick **Handsfree Telephony**, then apply.
Unpair and pair once more, play music and open an app that grabs the microphone, such as a voice chat client. The audio should stay in stereo quality.
A USB desk mic or the laptop's own array is the honest fix when the headset mic is gone. Trying to keep HFP and high-quality audio at the same time is what caused the switch.
Both step 3 and step 4 are needed. If only one is applied, Windows recreates the profile.
The wrong entry was disabled. Re-enable the stereo device in the sound settings and check the default output.
Expected - HFP is what carries the mic. Use a separate microphone or re-enable Handsfree Telephony.
HFP is a narrowband call profile. When an app opens the mic, Windows switches profiles and the audio quality drops.
No. Windows picks the profile by use, not by codec. AAC or LDAC support is separate.
Re-enable the **Hands-Free AG Audio** device in the sound settings and tick **Handsfree Telephony** again in the headset's properties. The call profile returns.
