Sync Clipboard and Files Between Phone and PC With KDE Connect

Pair an Android phone with Windows, share the clipboard both ways, send files without a cable and use the phone as a remote.

by@guidox updated:10/30/26 time:10 min level:Beginner tested on:Windows 11 24H2, Android 14 works on:Windows 10, Windows 11, Android 5+ tools:KDE Connect
TL;DR

Install **KDE Connect** on both sides, pair over the **same Wi-Fi** and allow it through the **Windows firewall**. The clipboard and file transfer then work directly, without a cloud account.

Before you start

Requirements

  • Windows 10 or Windows 11
  • Android 5.0 or newer
  • Both devices on the same network, no client isolation
Step by step

Instructions

01

Install both apps

Get KDE Connect for Windows (Microsoft Store or the KDE download page) and for Android from the Play Store. The versions do not have to match.

https://kdeconnect.kde.org/download.html
⚠ warningA guest Wi-Fi with client isolation blocks device-to-device traffic. Use the home network or a hotspot.
02

Allow it through the firewall

On first start Windows asks about network access. Tick **Private networks**. Without that exception the phone never appears in the list.

03

Pair the devices

Both sides list the other device by name. Send a pairing request from one side and accept it on the other - the request times out after a minute.

04

Enable only the plugins you need

Open the device in KDE Connect and switch on **Clipboard**, **Share and receive files** and, if you want it, **Multimedia control**. Every plugin is a permission.

05

Test both directions

Copy text on the phone and paste it on the PC, then send a photo to the PC and open it from the downloads folder. Clipboard sync needs both devices unlocked.

tipClipboard sync is manual on some versions - check the tray icon for the send action.
06

Keep the link alive

Both devices must stay on the same subnet. A VPN on either device can break discovery, and a sleeping PC cannot receive anything.

Troubleshooting

Common issues

The devices do not see each other

Firewall exception missing, different subnets or client isolation on the Wi-Fi. Check all three before reinstalling anything.

Clipboard only works one way

The plugin is off on the other device. Enable it on both and unlock the phone once.

File transfer is slow

You are on 2.4 GHz or the phone is saving power. Use the 5 GHz band and keep the screen on during the transfer.

Pairing fails after a network change

Old pairing entries hold stale addresses. Unpair on both sides and pair again on the new network.

FAQ

Frequently asked

Does anything go through a cloud?

No. Traffic goes directly between the two devices on your network.

Is there an iPhone version?

There is, but with fewer plugins. Clipboard and file transfer are the useful parts.

How to undo this

Unpair the device on both sides and uninstall the two apps. No files or clipboard data remain on the other device.
