Set the controller to a real remote
Dolphin can emulate a remote with a gamepad, but a physical one needs the correct input source on the controller page. Choose the real remote option and let it search.
Controllers > Wii Remote 1 > Real Wii Remote
A physical remote makes Wii games feel right, but the sensor bar and the Bluetooth pairing are where most setups fail. Both have a reliable answer.
Enable **real remote support**, sync the remote with **1 and 2**, and give the pointer a **sensor bar** - a wireless one or two candles 30 cm apart. Bluetooth passthrough is the fallback when pairing fails.

Open the battery cover and hold the red sync button, or press 1 and 2 together on the face. The four player lights flash while pairing and stop on one light when it worked.
Hold 1 + 2
The remote is a camera, not a mouse. Without an infrared source it cannot aim; a wireless sensor bar or two candles 30 centimetres apart give it the two points it needs.
Point at the centre of the screen and use the calibration option so the cursor lands where you aim. Recalibrate after moving the bar; the geometry is what the remote triangulates against.

Passthrough hands the whole adapter to the emulator, which is what the console does and what fixes most pairing and audio problems. It needs a dedicated adapter and admin rights.
Controllers > Bluetooth Passthrough
The remote's speaker is part of the experience in some titles and a source of crackle in others. Test one level with it on before you decide; rumble usually works without extra setup.
The remote is paired to another host, or the adapter is busy. Remove it from other devices and retry.
A weak infrared source or a reflective surface behind you. Move the bar and turn off the lamp behind the screen.
Power saving on the Bluetooth adapter. Disable the option in the adapter's properties.
The adapter is shared or underpowered. A separate USB port and a direct connection help.
Only for the titles that require it. The emulator reports the remote's capabilities once it is connected.
Yes. Plug it in before pairing so the emulator sees both parts of the controller.
Set the controller back to **Emulated Wii Remote** and remove the device from the Bluetooth list. Nothing else on the system changes.
